Prompt: Today, you continued working on your "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" PowerPoint project. Think about the creation process. Which part of creating your presentation has required the most thought or creativity? What choices have you made with your information, images, or slide design to help communicate your understanding of the story? Explain.

The part of creating my presentation that required the most thought was choosing the important information about Mr. Shiflet. I had to decide which details and actions best showed his personality and helped explain his role in the story. I also chose images that matched the character and kept my slides organized so they were easy to understand. These choices helped me show what I learned about the story in a creative way.

Prompt: Today, you worked on a PowerPoint presentation based on a character from "The Life You Save May Be Your Own." Do you think creating a presentation like this helps you understand a story and its characters better than a traditional worksheet? Why or why not? Explain your answer.

Yes, I think creating a PowerPoint presentation helps me understand a story and its characters better than a traditional worksheet. A presentation lets me focus on the character’s actions, personality, and important moments in the story. It also makes the information more interesting and easier to remember because I can use pictures and organize my ideas. Overall, I think a PowerPoint helps me understand the character on a deeper level.

Prompt: The title “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” suggests that helping or protecting another person may also benefit you. Describe a time when helping someone else taught you something, changed your perspective, or made a positive difference in your own life.

One time I helped a friend who was having a hard time with something at school. I listened to them and helped them figure out what to do instead of giving up. Helping them taught me that even small things can make a big difference for someone else. It also made me realize that helping people can make you feel good and bring you closer together.

Blog Prompt: Have you ever had a first impression of someone that later turned out to be wrong? What made you form that first impression, and what eventually changed your mind? Based on what you have read so far, what first impression do you have of Mr. Shiflet? Explain what he has said or done that has shaped your opinion of him.

I have had a first impression of someone that turned out to be wrong. At first, I thought they were quiet and unfriendly because they did not talk much, but after getting to know them, I realized they were actually nice and just shy. In “The Life You Save May Be Your Own,” my first impression of Mr. Shiflet is that he is strange and selfish. He seems friendly at first, but some of the things he says and does make me think that he is mostly interested in what he can get for himself.

In "The Rockpile", John and Roy do not always receive the same treatment from the adults in their family. Have you ever felt that you or someone else in your family was treated differently from everyone else? What caused the difference, and do you think it was fair? Explain.

Im the older child so I know my stuff is more expensive and I know this. however my mother will go out with my siblings and spend money for their cloths and food. and when I go out I either cant get anything or the kids have to get something too or it "wouldn't be fair" she says this like they don't get things all the time without me.

In “The Rockpile,” the children know that the rockpile is dangerous and that they are supposed to stay away from it, but curiosity still draws them toward it. Think about a time when curiosity or temptation caused you to ignore a warning or rule. What happened, and what did you learn from the experience?

just like every other kid I was also a curious one. one day I was outside playing during a cookout. while my family was cooking I found the fire interesting. I knew it was hot but I just had the need to touch the flame. I ended up burning my self and had to stay inside

Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change

in my personal opinion change and loss are some of the most difficult things to go through. imagine living somewhere your whole life and moving states. New school, new people, new places. completely new environment. this especially to some people can be very overwhelming and difficult to get back used too and will never be the same. loss is a whole different topic but in the same category. imaging seeing your dad and playing with him and then suddenly never seeing him again. some people cant live with what they last said or that feeling of something missing and that is a hard struggle for anyone to get through .

Think about a house, building, or place that holds special memories for you.

one place that has sentimental value to me is my grandmas house. this place has a lot of meaning because that is where I spent half of my life growing up. it is a large farm house in Virginia and I would run around playing with out dog. I tried so many things for the first time. I would climb treas and play with toys in the back yard

In “Her Sweet Weight on My Heart a Night” by Emily Dickinson, the speaker describes the emotional weight another person can have on us. Think about someone who has left a lasting impact on your life. In what ways do you still carry that person with you?

a few years back my family dog had passed away and one way we keep her memory is by having a spot for her and her picture set up in the house so we can always remember her.

Prompt: Write about a fear you have overcome.

i've had this fear of spiders for many years, every time i would go through woods or outside I would get scared and imagine them everywhere. I would feel my skin crawl and itch and I couldn't handle it. one day I said I had enough and went to a spider sanctuary place and had them help me overcome my fear.
